CES reflections
Posted Wednesday, February 03 2010 by The JobsBloggersThese past few months have been all about change and new experiences for me. While I continue to work very closely with the Windows Live team, I’ve also expanded to encompass parts of Operations & Windows Engineering. It’s fun to see how other teams operate and learn about all of their exciting products and features. I really do love technology and that passion is one of the main reasons why I work at Microsoft.
On that note, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. Now, with a few weeks between me and the event, I've had the opportunity to reflect on the CES and the state of technology:
First off, let me just say, “What an impressive experience!”
It was like nothing I’d ever seen and – true to Vegas form – I was blown away by the sheer size of the event. I’m not going to go into any kind of product reviews (you have engadget for that) – but seeing all the new Win7 netbooks, 3DTV’s, and e-readers was truly awe-inspiring. I’m excited for the direction technology seems to be taking.
Of course, I spent the majority of my time at the Microsoft booth, where I donned my trusty blue Microsoft jersey and helped man the Q&A desk. The Microsoft booth was a spectacle in itself.
There were tons of products represented, many with demo stations that visitors could walk up, try out products or see presentations of the various new features given by Microsoft employees. There was even a large common area with several Surface tables set up for people to enjoy and a large series of Xbox stations showcasing several new Xbox and Xbox Arcade games.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to try all of our demos, but I was particularly impressed with the Office2010, Mediaroom, and of course, Windows Live demos. There were a lot of other fantastic demos there as well – such as Zune & Windows mobile, and we even had an “auto-show-like” area set up to display the Sync & UVO platforms developed by Windows Automotive. Very cool.
CES was a very worthwhile experience. I learned a ton about the industry, witnessed a bunch of new products first hand and networked with all kinds of interesting people. Yes, I even collected a handful of resumes.
Hope you enjoy the pictures I snapped from the event and who knows? – maybe I’ll see you there next year!
